About 4til1-huset
We live as if we have four planets to spare, but we only have one. The Bakkekvarteret 4til1 house is Ikano Bolig's contribution to ‘Housing construction from 4 to 1 planet’: an initiative from Realdania and the Villum Foundation, which aims to reduce the climate footprint of Danish housing construction by 75% by 2030.
In Vinge, we are building four terraced houses with a low climate footprint. The homes, which are to be rented out, are an example of how materials such as wood, wood fiber, and hemp, as well as innovative construction methods, can significantly reduce CO2 emissions. The foundation itself, for example, is made of wood and recycled Styrofoam, which stands directly on sand. We have only used steel and cement on the plinth and under the bathroom tiles.
The terraced houses have heat pumps supplemented by electric radiators, which are powered by solar cells – so we save CO2 on heating. At the same time, the bio-based building materials store so much CO2 that in the first few years, this more than offsets the CO2 emissions from the homes. We aim to create homes with a better indoor climate, e.g. through better acoustics, stable humidity, and minimal off-gassing of chemical substances.
The four townhouses are two-story with a kitchen-dining area on the ground floor and three bedrooms and a bathroom on the first floor. They are part of the Bakkekvarteret neighborhood, which is located in scenic surroundings in Vinge near Frederikssund.
The terraced houses are model buildings that we will use to learn more about how we can build homes with a low climate footprint in the future. We will therefore continuously gather knowledge about the project, both by taking measurements in the houses and talking to those who live there. As a resident, you must be prepared for this – just as you should have an interest in climate and the environment.
